The Gridiron Geniuses — 2020 Draft Recap
Travis K entered as champion. Eleven managers entered with one shared goal: dethrone the king.
The Defending Champ's Opening Move
Travis K drafted with the confidence of someone whose championship belt is still warm. He took his usual calculated approach — tight end premium, value at RB, patience in the middle rounds. The room watched. Nobody admitted they were copying him.
Storylines That Defined the Board
Matt S rebuilt from the ground up after his runner-up finish, pivoting to a zero-RB strategy that either makes him 2020's genius or next week's cautionary tale. He described his approach as "a refined methodology." It looks like he drafted five wide receivers.
Hillary T went even faster at the skill positions this year. Hill Yeah is now basically a track meet. The question isn't whether her players are fast. The question is whether they can stay healthy.
Joe M had the draft of someone who reads five experts per day and then ignores all of them. Bold. Confusing. Somehow confident.
Late-Round Interest
Derek H took three injured players in rounds 10-12 and called each one "a calculated risk." The calculations are, charitably, in progress.
Stefan D continued his tradition of quiet late-round picks that might be this year's breakout players or might be the exact same late-round picks from last year who didn't break out.
Verdict
A solid draft class. At least four teams look legitimately scary. At least four teams look like they'll be posting "my week" in the group chat every Monday until week 6, then going quiet.
The 2020 Gridiron Geniuses season is live. History does not repeat. It rhymes, though.
