The Gridiron Geniuses
Week 1 Recap
Week 1 — 2020 Gridiron Geniuses
A new season. New rosters. Same terrible kicker decisions.
The 2020 season opened exactly as any veteran of this league would predict: with results that vindicated no one and confused everyone. Week 1 is a mirror — it shows you exactly what you hoped your team would be, then immediately calls you delusional.
Hillary T exploded out of the gate with 153.8, making the Hill Yeah speed strategy look prescient. Her lineup dropped 40 points in one slot and still won by 20. This is either the sign of a champion or the most unsustainable hot streak in league history.
Travis K (defending champion, lest anyone forget) opened with 131.4. Solid. Controlled. Exactly the kind of week that makes a defending champion look like a defending champion.
Matt S and his zero-RB experiment debuted with 144.2, which is either proof the strategy works or proof that week 1 is noise. Probably both.
Derek H opened with 72.1. Derek says his players were all on bye. They were not. He is reviewing the tape.
Storyline Watch
Joe M and Jay H played the highest-scoring matchup of the week — 137.6 to 129.4 — a genuinely good game that deserved to be watched by more than twelve people and zero casual observers.
Week 2 arrives before the wounds from week 1 are fully healed. This is the correct cadence for fantasy football.
