2023 Season Summary — The Gridiron Geniuses

Five years. Five different champions. The pattern holds.

Champion: Matt S — Room for Stafford 🏆

The zero-RB pioneer who abandoned zero-RB won the championship. The man who said "new strategy" at the draft and refused to explain it carried that strategy to a title. Matt S defeats Travis K 144.8 — 128.3 in the championship game, denying Travis K a second ring for the third time.

This is, somehow, the most Matt S outcome possible.

Season Highlights

• Most points in a single season: Matt S, 1,801 pts (new league record)
• Best record: Matt S, 9-4 (tied with Jay H's 2021 record)
• Most competitive playoff bracket: three games decided by 10 points or fewer
• Closest game of the season: Stefan D vs Kyler M, week 5 — 127.3 to 127.1

The Travis K Runner-Up Problem

Travis K has now appeared in two championship games (2019 — won; 2023 — lost), been eliminated in the semifinals twice, and has made the playoffs in all five seasons he's participated in. He is, by any measure, the most consistently elite manager in this league. He has not won since year 1. This is either a story about bad luck or a very good argument about when championships get won.

He will be back.

League Culture: Year Five

Five years. Five champions. The record book is filling with names. The rivalries are fully formed — Travis vs. everyone, Stefan vs. his own spreadsheet, Hillary vs. the schedule. Derek H vs. the injury report.

The Gridiron Geniuses is a real institution now. The history is real. You're looking at it.

Matt S — 2023 Champion. Room for Stafford? Apparently yes.
