The Gridiron Geniuses
Week 7 Recap
Week 7 Recap — The Gridiron Geniuses
The midpoint approaches. The pretenders are separating from the contenders. The group chat is not okay.
Travis K defeats Hillary T — 148.3 to 131.6
Travis K is 6-1. Say it again: 6-1. In year seven. The man who last won a championship in 2019 is running the best record in the league at the halfway point, and he is doing it quietly, methodically, and without a single unnecessarily provocative message to the group chat.
That is, itself, a form of psychological warfare.
Hillary T's 131.6 would have beaten nine other teams this week. She lost because Travis K's lineup went off — his flex play alone dropped 38 points on a day where nobody had him projected above 14. That is the Travis K 2025 experience: reasonable projections, unreasonable outcomes.
Hillary T is now 4-3. Still in playoff position. Still dangerous. Still the two-time runner-up who has never closed. She knows this. She does not need anyone to say it.
Matt S defeats Brock P — 157.2 to 88.4
157.2. Matt S posted the highest score of the week — the highest score of the season — in the most complete performance we've seen since CJ W's wire-to-wire 2024 run. Every starter produced. The flex was perfect. The backup TE he's been streaming for three weeks finally broke out.
Brock P had 88.4. He had the third-highest projected score in the league this week. The gap between projection and outcome was 47 points. Brock P has called this "an anomaly." He has filed it under "things that happen." His playoff odds have not filed it under the same category.
Matt S is now 5-2 and climbing. The 2023 champion is back in championship conversation. His legal pad has been updated. He showed no one.
CJ W defeats Stefan D — 132.8 to 119.4
The defending champion is 5-2 and playing with the kind of methodical competence that doesn't make headlines but wins March. CJ W's week 7 was clean — no single performance was spectacular, but every starter hit within 3 points of projection. That is roster construction. That is discipline.
Stefan D falls to 3-4. The spreadsheet has a new tab. It is titled "week 7 post-mortem." It is twelve rows long. He has shared it with one person. That person changed the subject.
Jay H defeats Adam T — 141.9 to 112.3
Jay H's QB strategy — the one that won him 2021, that he abandoned in 2022-2024, and that he brought back this offseason — is producing again. His QB is averaging 34.1 points over the last three weeks. His floor is now higher than three teams' ceilings.
Adam T falls to 3-4 and is now on the outside of the playoff bubble looking in. His round-7 gut pick from the draft continues to deliver. His other six starters continue to be the question.
The Rest of the Scoreboard
| Matchup | Score |
|---|---|
| Derek H over Joe M | 118.6 — 103.2 |
| Justin J over Kyler M | 124.4 — 108.7 |
Derek H is 4-3. He has not said anything about this in the group chat. He is, clearly, waiting. The round-8 gut pick is now his RB2. His composure is genuinely impressive and slightly unsettling.
Joe M drops to 3-4. He scored 103. He lost by 15. He has started the wrong player for the third time this season. He knows who he should have started. He knew before the game. He started the other one anyway. This is Joe M's journey.
Power Rankings (Week 7)
- Travis K — 6-1. Leading. Quiet. Dangerous.
- Matt S — 5-2. 157 points this week. Coming.
- Jay H — 5-2. QB doing what it did in 2021.
- CJ W — 5-2. Defending champion, operating.
- Hillary T — 4-3. Still in range. Don't blink.
- Derek H — 4-3. We are watching this carefully.
- Brock P — 3-4. The projections lied. Again.
- Adam T — 3-4. The gut pick can't carry the whole team.
- Stefan D — 3-4. The spreadsheet is not helping.
- Justin J — 3-4. Won this week. Trend unclear.
- Kyler M — 2-5. Rebuilding in real time.
- Joe M — 3-4. Starts the wrong player with conviction.
Stat of the Week
Matt S's 157.2 is the highest single-week score of the 2025 season and the fourth-highest in Gridiron Geniuses history. His flex play's 38-point game was the highest positional score at that slot since CJ W's 2024 run.
He has not mentioned this. He is waiting for someone else to mention it first. This recap is now that mention.
Looking Ahead
Six weeks of regular season remain. The playoff picture is coming into focus:
- Lock: Travis K (barring complete collapse)
- Strong position: Matt S, Jay H, CJ W, Hillary T
- Bubble: Derek H, Brock P, Adam T, Stefan D
- Needs a miracle: Kyler M, Joe M, Justin J
Week 8 brings the most anticipated matchup of the season: Travis K vs. Matt S. Two 2025 contenders. One game. The group chat has already started. It is long. Nobody is being reasonable about it.
Lineups lock Sunday at 1pm ET. Set them. Check them again Saturday night. Check them one more time Sunday morning. Start the right one. You know what happens when you don't.
